Praying for Government – 1

This week, we begin our 3-week focus on praying for our government, both local and national.

Scripture 1

I urge, then first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people; for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.  1Tim. 2:1-2

Lord, You have instructed us to worship first for all people, for our leaders in authority by lifting up prayers, petitions, intercession and thanksgiving; Your desire is that we would live in peace, with quietness in our lives. The expression of this would be godliness and holiness, which is good and pleasing in Your eyes.

Scripture 2

Foolish ones, how much longer will you cling to your deception? How much longer will you mock wisdom; cynical scorners who fight the facts? Come back to your senses and be restored to reality. Don’t even think about refusing My rebuke! Don’t you know that I’m ready to pour out My Spirit of wisdom upon you and bring to you the revelation of My words that will make your heart wise?  Proverbs 1:22-23 TPT

Oh you who scorn and mock and hold tight to your deception, come back to your right mind and be restored to what’s really truth. You will not be able to reject The Lords rebuke. The Lord is ready to pour out His Spirit of wisdom and revelation and then your hearts will be wise.

Scripture 3

Vicious enemies hate me. There’s so many, Lord, can’t You see? Will You protect me from their power against me? Let it never be said that I trusted You and You didn’t come to my rescue. Your perfection and faithfulness are my bodyguards, for You are my hope and I trust in You as my protection.   Psalms 25:19-21 TPT

Lord, it would seem that the enemy is running deep within our government, but I know You are able to protect us and rescue us from the powers that be. You will not hear from our lips that You would not come help us, You will protect us because You are faithful and true.

Scripture 4

When wisdom wins your heart and revelation breaks in, true pleasure enters your soul. If you choose to follow good counsel, Divine design will watch over you and understanding will protect you from making poor choices.  Proverbs 2:10-11 TPT

Lord, help our government leaders choose Your wisdom and let it win their hearts, let Divine revelation break in and watch over and protect their understanding that they would seek good counsel, keep them from making poor choices.

Scripture 5

Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.  Proverbs 2:12-15

We pray that overcoming joy would come to the government leaders as they follow God’s ways. May they not walk after the wicked or share in the way of sinners. We pray that they would not sit in the seat of the those who scorn, but would find their pleasure and passion in You.
