The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. And you did not receive the spirit of religious duty, leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the Spirit of full acceptance, enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved Child!” And since we are his true children, we qualify to share all his treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that he is and all that he has. We will experience being co-glorified with him provided that we accept his sufferings as our own. Rom 8:14-17 TPT
This post may feel like a regression but I hope by being transparent in my struggles I can help others overcome. I have struggled a lot lately with old mindsets of not being good enough, not measuring up, rejection, and abandonment. I know that none of these mindsets are from God or even who He says that I am but as I pursued God these things came at me with a vengeance causing me to pull back at times from others. I also know that I am not alone in my struggles with this. Your attack may look different from mine but we all face junk from our past that wants to come back and hold us down to prevent us from the life Jesus died to give us.
Recently as I was struggling with never feeling like I measured up, God lead me to the above scripture in Romans. I absolutely love the word of God because it speaks truth and life at all times especially when you need it the most. The lie of never being good enough speaks of performance and we do not need to perform in order for God to accept us and love us. We just need to be, be yourself and be with Him. As we draw closer and closer in a more deeper and intimate relationship with the one we love we will begin to change from the inside out. That is the only way we can ever change and become more and more like Him.
The negative mindset of not being good enough, rejection, abandonment, and other things can cause you to feel separated from God and others but the truth is God never leaves you alone and He never rejects you. Even when you are feeling down and out just begin to praise Jesus for who He is. Trust me when you do your attitude and mindset will begin to shift.
As I type this a phrase from a song I cannot recall the title to keeps coming to mind: “don’t give up, don’t give in, we win, we win!!! When you are a lover of God you win. We do not have to choose the mindset that says we are not enough, this my friends lines up with an orphan spirit and we are no longer orphans we are beloved children of the most high God. Be aware of what you are thinking and begin to change your thoughts and actions to ones that line up with the truth of who God says you are. I love and hate the verse in James that says to count it all joy when you face trials and tribulations. I know joy is not what we feel but it is what we can choose to feel. Jesus loves you and is for you.
My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. James 1:2-3 TPT
Thank you for allow me to digress. I am praying that the truth of God’s word completely set you free! You are no longer slaves, you are no longer orphans but you are beloved children of God. Begin to act and think like His children as you delight in loving Him and knowing Him more.
Now we’re no longer living like slaves under the law, but we enjoy being God’s very own sons and daughters! And because we’re his, we can access everything our Father has – for we are heirs of God through Jesus, the Messiah! Galatians 4:7 TPT.
Your thoughts define me, You’re inside me, You are my reality!! Abba I belong to you! Let these words wash over you as you stand firm on who you belong to.
